Sunday Preschool Religious Formation
Our Preschool Program is a religious readiness program. It helps children discover their special qualities and their importance in God's creation. Our program will help give the children a solid foundation for their future Christian Education.
Periodic parent letters go home with each child to inform parents of each class topic. Parents are also given information from the Parish.
Classes meet on Sunday mornings during the 9:30 a.m. mass. This gives parents an opportunity to attend mass while their children are learning about God and His teachings at their age level. There are three levels of classes for 3 year olds, 4 year olds, and 5 year olds. Children are placed in the class that is most appropriate for the child's age reached by September 1st of each year
Three and Four Year Olds
The three and four year old preschoolers are taught using the David Cook series of Bible stories, projects, and songs. This program is just the beginning of your child's learning about God. It is also a start for your child being away from parents and with members of their own age group. Playtime is a very important part of these chasses to ready children for their class hour. Sunday parent letters will be given each week with your children; to help keep parents up to date on what lesson was taught during that class.
Five Year Olds
The five year old preschoolers are taught using Sadlier's "We Believel" Kindergarten Religious Education Program. This is the same program that is used in our St. Matthew School. This program is based on the belief that young children need to develop positive self-concepts. Their ability to know God and their ideas about God are strongly influenced by their ideas about themselves. Children need to feel good about themselves in order to learn to love others as themselves. Parent letters and handouts will be given each week with your children, letting parents know a little about each class.
Each lesson theme incorporates scriptural teachings and references the Catholic Church. Therefore throughout the program, parents are informed of ways to extend the lessons at home in order to aid them in nurturing the Catholic faith of their children. Each lesson uses scripture, music, and prayer to increase the children's appreciation and celebration of God's love and goodness.
The five year old kindergarten class ends with a Graduation Celebration for the children and their families. Many of our preschoolers have started with us since they were three years old. This ends the child's years in preschool, but just a beginning of their many years if their religious education.
