6th Grade

 

Welcome to grade 6! This is the first year of middle school for St. Matthew’s students. We incorporate technology and creativity into language arts, literature, and science. Students design sets for literature, complete science labs, and write how-to papers and demonstrate them to the class. We focus on a variety of genres in literature and write various essays throughout the year.
The sixth graders are “Big Buddies” to the third graders. They also compete in middle school intramurals.
Students in sixth grade also take part in the school geography bee, spelling bee, and Knights of Columbus math and spelling contests. Sixth grade is also represented on St. Matthew’s student council.
