Cross Country

 St. Matthew's Bulldogs Cross Country

St. Matthews offers Cross Country to our students in grades 5-8 and participates under the by-laws created by the St. Matthew Parish Athletic Association.

Our Cross Country program began in 2001 with 9 runners, and has grown to 17 runners competing for the Bulldogs in 2008!  Our program offers a great compliment to our other athletic sports at St. Matthews, as well as a great opportunity for students not competing in sports to continue to learn and grow both physically and mentally.

While our kids learn running technique, stretching, running through a sideache, and how to consistently better their times from the run before, our program teaches them so much more....  In the bang of the starters pistol there are hundreds of kid's unspoken promises to finish the race.  They learn about faith - faith that you will reach the finish line, they learn about the uphills and downhills that are very similar to everyday life, and that you rarely have one without the other, and that very few people can be the absolute best in the field at any one given time, and that giving 100% of your individual effort and knowing that you gave everything that you had, makes you a winner everytime.

2008 SEASON REVIEW - All 17 of our runners this year were able to improve their times from the beginning of the year to the end!  Despite a drastic disadvantage in numbers from other teams that we competed against, our Bulldogs ended up with numerous Top 10 individual finishes, spotlighted by the Muskego Invitational, where out of a total of 18 teams, our kids ended up finishing 3rd in the 8th grade division, and 5th in the 7th grade and under.
